Vision of the Town of Weaverville

Weaverville will maintain its small town and neighborly environmentally friendly  atmosphere while actively managing the growth that is inevitable near a larger city. We will maintain Weaverville as a distinctive Town with a vital Main Street as its focus. Our town will be attractive to both young and old with a wide range of housing choices at a variety of prices.  Neighborhoods and business areas are key building blocks of our community. We will reserve areas for both types of uses while buffering each from the other. We seek an attractive town that is well landscaped and accessible to pedestrians and cyclist. We will create a favorable atmosphere for the right type of business and industry those that are clean and provide a good living for our residents. The services expected from the Town are sidewalks, parks, green spaces, financially responsible services and well run utilities and emergency services. To develop this vision we intend to assertively use zoning, subdivision regulations, extraterritorial planning authority and annexation.

Weaverville is Home to Several Industrial World Leaders

Weaverville is positioned to continue along its path of stable economic growth. A balance of forces, centered on the area's quality of life amenities, will continue to support this durable pattern.

Balance economic growth in the Asheville Metro / Weaverville is being led by:
  • Specialized health care industry
  • Record setting tourism activity
  • Emerging professional service sector
  • Resilient housing market
  • Transforming manufacturing sector
Located along Interstate 26 in Buncombe County the Town of Weaverville contains a large industrial sector despite its small size. With an estimated 2009 population of 3,216 and a property tax base of $629,994,521 in fiscal year 2008 the town remains small but has grown its tax base by an average annual rate of 19.83% per year since 2003 due to plant annexations, major residential expansions and the effect of a reappraisal of property in 2003 and 2006.

arvatoArvato (Sonopress), a subsidiary of Bertelsmann is one of the world leading manufactures of CD's and Blue Ray Discs,  it is the largest taxpayer and employer in the town with an assessed valuation that represents 16.5% of the tax base. If you have purchased a CD or Blue Ray Disc, recently most likley that disc was produced in Weaverville North Carolina. Weaverville also benefited in 2003 from the location inside of the town of worldwide headquarters of Kendro, a laboratory equipment maker that is a subsidiary of Thermo Electron.

baldorBaldor Electric Company (Baldor) released plans to expand its mechanical power transmission components manufacturing plant on Reems Creek Road in Weaverville. Over the next three years, this expansion project will involve the investment of nearly $5,000,000 and will add 32 or more highly skilled technical positions to the workforce, which now numbers around 130. The Weaverville facility has received Baldor President's award for outstanding safety achievements in 2007 and 2008 as well as the fifth consecutive annual award in 2007 for Outstanding Work in Accident Prevention from the North Carolina Department of Labor. In addition, Baldor's Buncombe County facility was named "Best Plant" of 2008 by the journal "Industry Week" in recognition of their leading management and manufacturing practices.

The fundamentals for growth in North Carolina's tax base are still among the best in the nation. North Carolina and  the Weaverville community continues to attract highly educated residents in high-value added businesses. Over time, these new residents and businesses will earn and spend more money as well as increased property values within the Weaverville community.
